The PCA TX fall meeting weekend began on Friday, October 25 when 16 members
enjoyed a festive Tex-Mex dinner at Rio Mambo in Weatherford, Texas.
Saturday morning, 18 members gathered in the meeting room at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in
Weatherford and began browsing the selection of weights brought by Guest Paperweight Artist
Eric Hansen [Eric Hansen Art Glass].
At 10:00 AM, President Allen Boyd called the meeting to order, welcoming members and thanking
Eric and Cheryl Hansen for inviting members to visit their home and Eric’s new glass shop.
Treasurer and Membership Chair Jan Whitley reported that PCA TX is very solvent. Membership
stands at 70 representing 35 cities and 9 states.
Reporting for Scholarship Fund Chair Mike Taylor, President Boyd said that a scholarship
approved earlier in the year for a paperweight artist was not granted because the class the
artist intended to take was canceled. He encourages artists seeking scholarship grants to
access the information and application form available on our website [PCATX Scholarships and Grants] .
Eric Hansen gave a brief update on his current piloting schedule for American Airlines and
his plans to retire in about 18 months. He hopes that the time spent in his glass shop will
increase after he retires.
A discussion was held on enhancing the Facebook Group and its need for additional monitors.
Jean Cotter and Claire Terry volunteered to become a monitor.
Webmaster Sam Terry reported that the PCA TX website is updated with meeting information,
works by guest artists, and many links to paperweight regional groups, glass museums and
demos.
Show and Tell included presentations of a member’s new paperweights and a paperweight
repair story (2 damaged paperweights repaired by Eric Hanson).
The Business Meeting ended with door prizes including a beautiful Eric Hansen paperweight
donated by the artist.
Members enjoyed a quick lunch out before heading to Eric and Cheryl Hansen’s lake home.
Members toured his glass studio and were treated to a fascinating paperweight demo by Eric.
The demo was followed by lots of browsing and buying from his available works. The afternoon
was capped with drinks and snacks and time to enjoy the lovely lake views.
The meeting concluded with a farewell, western style dinner at the Mesquite Pit Restaurant.
Members agreed that Eric and Cheryl Hansen’s hospitality made for a very special paperweight
weekend.
