The PCA TX summer meeting weekend began on Friday, June 24 when 17 members dined at Local Table in Katy, Texas. Everyone enjoyed the leisurely dinner and the good company.
Saturday morning, 20 members gathered in the meeting room at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Katy. There were also several members watching on Zoom. At 10:00 AM, President Mike Taylor called the meeting to order, welcoming members and announcing the Silent Auction procedures.
Treasurer and Membership Chair Jan Whitley reported that the balance in the Sunny Lou Peer Memorial Scholarship Fund and our organization’s accounts. Membership stands at 78 individuals representing thirty-eight cities and ten states.
Vice President Anissa Cooke reported that members can now post directly on the [PCATX Facebook Group Page] and she is developing a marketing plan to enhance and grow the group.
President Taylor presented a video overview of the PCA, Inc. 2022 Convention in Appleton, Wisconsin [PCA National]. The video highlighted the Bergstom-Mahler Glass Museum, the Paine Art Center and Gardens, paperweight artists and dealers, presentations, and the good times enjoyed by all. Other PCA TX members who attended agreed it was a great paperweight experience.
After a break, member Doug Smith narrated a wonderful video about his marble collection. He explained how the process of making marbles differs from that of paperweights and he showed how marble artists use design and color in their cane work. While highlighting the work of twelve marble artists, he reminded us that “paperweights won’t roll!”
Members Past President Allen Boyd, Librarian Terri Taylor and Jan Whitley presented Show and Tell weights they had acquired at the convention.
Winning names were drawn for the Door Prizes.
Members spent the afternoon at a progressive Open House party. Ruth and Ted Glover shared their colorful and varied paperweights, and Doug Smith shared his extensive marble collection. But the warm hospitality at both homes stole the show.
