The summer PCA TX meeting began Friday, July 27 in Lindale, Texas at Posados
Cafe where 21 members gathered for dinner.
Saturday morning, 27 members convened in La Quinta’s meeting room where we began displaying
and browsing weights for the Silent Auction. At 10 AM President Allen Boyd called the
meeting to order.
We had a number of updates from committee chairs. Treasurer and Membership Chair Jan Whitley
gave us the current balances of the organization’s accounts. Website Chair Sam Terry
announced that he has reorganized the Links section by categories to make it easier to find
information on artists, organizations, videos, museums and more. Facebook Chair Ruth Glover
reported on the posting of paperweight photos by monthly themes and its success in drawing
visits, clicks and “likes.” She thanked all participants.
Lowell Switzer presented a remembrance of Jayne Gilbert (Past PCATX President), highlighting
her leadership in building our scholarship fund, her positive outlook and her friendly
nature. Other members also shared special memories. As Art Elder said, “Jayne lit up the room.”
As this was our annual member paperweight auction meeting there were no artist or dealer
presentations at this meeting.
After the lunch break, winning names for the member donated door prizes were drawn. The
Gilbert family also donated many of Jayne’s paperweight books.
We then auctioned the Damon MacNaught demo weight from our March Houston meeting— a
millefiori weight with a yellow rose center cane with a lone star. The winning bid went to
benefit our Artist Scholarship Fund.
President Boyd thanked all buyers and sellers for a successful auction. Later, members
enjoyed a festive farewell dinner at Chili’s Grill & Bar.
